Healing Our Way Forward
The weekend before the election I wrote this little prayer. It was my attempt to process some of the many overwhelming feelings I was having with regards to the uncertainty that lay ahead and my deep hope that we would honor one another no matter the outcome.
I have been deeply humbled by how these words seem to have resonated with so many. Within a week, the FB post of this prayer had reached over 75,000 people! God is good and I am grateful to be in solidarity with others who are seeking a way to heal our way forward as a nation.
I have confidence that our 224 year old democracy will hold strong and that the transfer of power will happen peacefully. Yes, we can heal our way forward.
We can heal our way forward as we celebrate Thanksgiving. Our gatherings will undoubtedly look different this year, yet I believe that we will still find creative and meaningful ways to give thanks for the blessings that abound even amidst the challenges we face.
We can heal our way forward as we observe Advent. The candles of the Advent wreath remind us that even in the darkest season of the year, light will shine and the darkness will not overcome it.
We can heal our way forward. Through God's grace and our persistent love for one another, I believe that this healing is possible. May the prince of peace light our way.
